Employability and business

Employability has been the main focus of my week.  It is a term with varied definitions – it means something different to employers, trainers, education providers, students, people looking for work and people in work – with such a wide applicability, it is difficult to get to grips with the issue, let alone consider partnership solutions!

Part of my focus has been on graduate employability and considering how Universities can include greater business skills in their offering without diluting the development of knowledge and research.  My own experience of careers advice at University was about ½ an hour wandering around a back room office trying to work out where a geography degree might lead me!  Now I know at least some of the story.

The other area of interest has been around the needs of employers in the hospitality industry and how local training providers may meet these requirements.  There are lots of national initiatives on this agenda including Hospitality House which is due to open in summer 2013 to provide fantastic new training facilities for hospitality and retail training.

Employability is a key strand of Inspiring Partnerships development right now  – so please do let us have your thoughts and input.

Meanwhile having dabbled at online business cards, we have commissioned a business card design.  Thank you for all the feedback on the website – we are so pleased you like it – please continue to have a look and pass on the address to friends and colleagues.
